For example a typical 2300 wide x 950 high stairs with 40mm gaps and made with battens and built Vertical slats and in Black, white or Dark grey would be $598. That works out at $273 per SQM. This is a Cut to Size then flat packed as a DIY kit
The multi-purpose DIY KIT to suit stairs. We don't cut any angle rails so when stairs are needed you should order an oversized panel to cover your angle, usually 100mm longer than needed. Then you stagger the battens or blades as you assemble.
The first step would be to get your horizontal rails on your posts. The main images here is a customer sent photos to me. Tell us it is for stairs and we will provide brackets that are saddles that you can manipulate or tilt yourself DIY to suit your angle. You should allow around an hour more per panel to make the changes when doing your stairs.
The height of the battens or blade is the height you need normally. generally you will stagger them as you go down your stairs. So a good tip is to set the top and bottom batten then run a string line to get the rake on the correct angle
The top and bottom rail that we have developed have holes pre-punched every 40mm to give you a prefect vertical fence system that you can do DIY in any width or height that your job requires. These 2 horizontal rails per panel allow the screws to sit inside the channel, then an aluminum cover conceals all the fixings for a great looking finish. If your doing your own gaps you will just predrill new rail holes. We provide plugs to fill unused holes.
Select your between each batten width to get an accurate Quote. Obviously the closer the battens the more privacy but also the more aluminum is used so higher the price:
- 40mm Batten Stairs usually have 40, 80 or 120mm gap options
- 16mm blade stairs usually have 24, 64 or 104mm gap options
The battens are 40mm x 40mm, or the blades are 65x16mm so they will protrude out past the Horizontal rail by 40mm to 65mm respectively. The screw connection system is super strong with our internal ribs inside the battens and the extrusion has been tested and when fitted is as strong as welding.
The battens and rails come in 3 colours; Satin Black, Dark Grey (like Monument) or Gloss White.

SIMPLE TO USE INSTRUCTIONS BELOW – All fittings generally in stock
- Connect the top and bottom 40x40 rail with the 2 brackets to the internal centre or edge of your post or pier on both sides. Use the speed sheet cutting sheet to know while hole the first slat goes into. NOTE: It may not be the first visible hole
- Decide where the rail will screw to battens. Typical way to decide is use 10% of the batten length. Then use that as the intersection for the top and bottom rail to the slats. So if battens are 1200mm long then use 120mm from top of batten to the rail and also 120mm from bottom of batten to the rail.
- Using a tape, measure down each slat edge from the top with a bright marker
- Using 2 people screw the first batten through the predrilled hole in rail then into the side of the batten on that mark (use the batten edge that has the 2 internal walls close to it)
- Continue the entire rail with top screws. Use the 2nd person to hold batten firm to rail.
- Once completed screw in the bottom. Normally no measurement is required for the bottom as the bottom rail should be firm and square
- Leave your gap between battens as shown on speed sheet.
- If you need posts then 76x76m Posts are $40 per metre or 100x100 are $70 per metre
